Drum Lessons for All Ages and Skill Levels

Our first-class instructors offer the most comprehensive drum lessons in Baltimore – from basic hand and foot technique to proper drum set positioning to the most complex grooves – in a fun and safe environment. As students learn how to play their favorite songs, they’ll work on coordination, snare drum technique, feel, dynamics and make their way through everything from rock to blues to hip hop to jazz and more. A group of passionate drummers, our instructors are here to inspire and push students to not only become great drummers, but great, confident musicians. Keeping with Stages’ motto – Learn. Perform. Record. – drum students will have the opportunity to record their own drum beats, and perform at recitals and with their fellow-students in one of our band programs.

Beginner Lessons

Beginner drum lessons give students the opportunity to get behind the drum kit and learn basic technique, including rudiments and hand-foot coordination. Through weekly lessons at our facility just outside of Baltimore, students will get comfortable playing the full drum set, work on fills and solos, and work their way up to play along with their favorite songs.

Intermediate and Advanced Lessons

Building on the foundations of technique and rhythm, intermediate and advanced lessons will help students play more complicated grooves, work on their speed and precision and refine their pocket. Our instructors are here to inspire students on their drum journeys and help them get to the next level.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do students need to have prior drum knowledge?

No prior knowledge is necessary! All you need is to have enthusiasm for drums. While some experience with drums may give students a head start, our instructors are ready and able to start students from scratch and teach them all the basic knowledge they need to get started.

What is the best age to start playing drums?

Any age is a great age to start learning an instrument! Students ages 4-8 can join our Mini Music Makers program, which allows young students to try out a variety of instruments in a fun, one-on-one setting. If students are ready for drums, they can start lessons as young as age 6. Studies have shown that learning an instrument can increase children’s academic performance and critical thinking. And you’re never too old to start – learning an instrument is a great way to keep the brain sharp.

Do I need to own a drum set or can Stages provide one?

Stages has drum sets in each of its lesson rooms that students will learn on. Students can greatly enhance their lessons if they own a drum set, but if they’re not ready to buy one, there’s still plenty to learn and practice for drummers at all levels using drumsticks and a practice pad!
