September’s student spotlight is shining on a young guitar player and athlete – Adam VanHorn. Adam studies with Stages GM Charles Simon who describes Adam as a “remarkable guitarist and shining star.” According to Charles, Adam has a natural talent and a deep love for music that sets him apart from others. “Watching Adam grow as a musician has been an absolute joy and I am incredibly proud to be his instructor. What do you study and why did you pick that instrument?
I play the guitar. My dad plays and my grandfather played, and that inspired me to choose guitar.
Who is your teacher and what do you love about them?
Charles Simon is my teacher and I like that he makes learning more fun.
What kind of music do you listen to or play? Who is one of your favorite artists?
I like to listen to country music and my favorite artist right now is Luke Combs.
What has been your greatest musical challenge?
I don’t enjoy playing in front of other people.
What’s your favorite thing about Stages or do you have a favorite Stages memory?
The staff at Stages is very friendly and helpful.
What are your musical goals? What is one of your non-music-related goals?
Musically, I want to keep progressing and enhancing my skills. My other goal is playing soccer and baseball at Calvert Hall.
