Choosing the Right Guitar For You: A Beginner’s Guide

Choosing the right guitar for you

A Beginner's Guide

Are you interested in learning how to play the guitar or in the market for a new instrument? Congratulations! Playing guitar is one of the most rewarding hobbies you can have. However, before you can start rocking out, you need to choose the right guitar for you. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to make a decision. But don’t worry, this guide will help you determine what to look for when choosing a new axe.

Determine Your Budget

Guitars come in a range of prices, and it’s important to have a budget in mind to narrow down your choices. You can find guitars for as little as $100 or as much as $10,000+. As a beginner, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on a guitar. Used is often a better value, but nothing really quite compares to having one that’s all yours. I always recommend going with the best instrument you can find in your price range.

Find a Guitar That Fits Your Style

Once you have a budget in mind, it’s time to consider the style of music you want to play. The two primary types of guitars are acoustic and electric. Acoustic guitars are ideal for playing folk, country, and singer-songwriter styles. They have a warm, natural tone and don’t require an amplifier. Electric guitars, on the other hand, are better suited for playing rock, metal, and blues. They have a bright, punchy tone and require an amplifier to be heard properly. It’s important to choose a guitar that not only fits the style of music that you want to play but also feels comfortable to hold and play.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT! Electric guitars are actually easier to play for beginners. This is because the strings are thinner and strung with less tension and are therefore easier to press down.

Choose a Guitar That Resonates with You

I always tell students and parents that the absolute most important thing about buying a new instrument is that you love the way it looks. You want an instrument that inspires you. When you see it sitting there in the living room on a guitar stand, you can’t help but pick it up and strum some chords. After all, the more you pick it up, the more you’ll practice, the better you’ll become!

Choosing the right guitar can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Determine your budget, find a guitar that fits the style you want to play, and make sure the instrument you choose resonates with you. Remember, the most important thing is to choose a guitar that you want to play. With the right guitar in hand, you’ll be on your way to playing your favorite songs and discovering your own unique sound!
