Shannon Czapla: 5 Albums That Made Me

1. Choose Your Weapon – Hiatus Kaiyote

“I love this album because it makes me feel like I’m in a video game while also being entertained by intricate jazz harmonies. Nai Palm will always be one of my favorite vocalists, and I think she is beautifully showcased throughout the album.”

2. 13.0.0.0.0 – TTNG

“This album never stops thrilling me. I always am finding new guitar fills or bass parts I hadn’t heard before. 13.0.0.0.0 is paired with one of my favorite rock vocal performances. The way the vocal lines match up with the odd time signatures is the best part of this album.”

3. Charlie Parker with Strings – Charlie Parker

“I have always loved ballads, so pairing them with my favorite horn player has got to make my list. I can’t say enough good things about this album and it will always hold a special place in my heart just for the oddity of the combination.”

4. Chet Baker Sings – Chet Baker

“His voice mesmerizes me! Chet’s voice is smooth like butter, accompanied by his cool jazz trumpet playing. I appreciate the laidback quality of this album.”

5. Black Holes and Revelations – Muse

“This album has such a variety of music. Assassin is quite different in comparison to Starlight, and I also love the mix on this album.”
